Join the APRHF Rail Rangers at Trainfest – Nov. 10 & 11, 2018

If you are headed to Trainfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the weekend of November 10-11, 2018, make sure you stop by and visit with the American Passenger Rail Heritage Foundation. The APRHF’s Rail Rangers program will have six tables at this year’s event… featuring a variety of items for sale and for display!  This includes a limited selection of all 12 editions of their popular railroad route guidebooks for purchase (prices range from $10 to $35).

The APRHF Rail Rangers will also be giving special lectures/clinics at this year’s event.

Come out at 2:00PM CT on Saturday, November 10th to learn about the important connection that trains played in the development of our country’s national parks. We will give a 45-minute-long brand new slide show about how trains and national park grew up together in the late 1800’s. We will also share information about 15 National Park Service units that have a direct connection to trains… and how you can visit them on your next road trip! Special guest Junior Ranger Aida will be making an appearance too at this presentation (she will also be at our table throughout the day on Saturday!). Aida is just 17 years old and has visited more than 300 National Park Service units. She earned the very first Junior Rail Rangers badge by riding between Chicago and La Plata, Missouri in 2015. For the past four years, Aida has been a spokesperson for the APRHF Rail Rangers and the APRHF Junior Rail Rangers program. Aida is also a published author and will have a limited number of her books for sale. They make a great gift for any kid or teen who likes travel or visiting national parks.

Junior Ranger Aida Frey will be making an appearance at Trainfest once again this year to talk about how fun it is to take trains to visit our national parks!

Come out at 2:00PM CT on Sunday, November 11th to learn about the history of the South Shore Line, America’s last interurban railroad! This brand new 45-minute-long slide show will discuss the many “ups and downs” of this historic train line… and how it’s overcome to the odds to become very successful and popular today under the management of the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD). This 90-mile route passes through Downtown Chicago, the historic steel-mill region of Northwest Indiana, the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and State Park, and runs 32 miles through farm fields before reaching South Bend Airport. The APRHF Rail Rangers will also talk about their onboard educational programs that they give aboard the South Shore Line and how you can ride with in the future.

Join the Rail Rangers for special presentations both Saturday and Sunday — but don’t forget to pre-register for a seat.

While both of these lectures/clinics are FREE to all with a paid Trainfest ticket, however, seating is limited to 30 people and you MUST pre-register using this website:

The APRHF Rail Rangers will be making a major announcement to the public on December 1, 2018 regarding the future of their onboard educational programs on the South Shore Line — so stay tuned for that!  Those who attend our lecture/clinic on Sunday, November 11th will get a sneak preview of the announcement!
