San Vicente June is always an exciting time due to this event. This will for sure be the last year for the “Unofficial” title. This event is just as strong as it was since we were dealt the terrible blow with our park project a few years ago. You can read about that in other posts on this site. I will also be doing a full update about the project in another post. Now let’s have some fun watching trains.

Folks that attend the events arrive by all means of transportation. A lot of them fly in and then take to the train to finish the trip while many drive so they can go explore the area at will. Simon from Australia was one of the first to arrive by train and then the next morning Mark B from Kansas arrived followed by Don Root and Suzanne from Virginia came in to quite the audience. These photos also show some great conductors that Amy and I interact with all the time. They know that we have a good time here.

The Santa Fe Cafe takeover is a fun time and always makes the locals wonder what is going on now. We have a great time here and Michelle is a wonderful owner. Many still eat the “haystack” in honor of Klaatu (RIP sir). Breakfast is served and laughter is in the air.

Here comes the star of the show. Everyone was lined up and ready to get their shot of Amtrak #4 and wave at the passengers on the train. After #4 left a stack train was right behind it so why not get a shot of it also. The freight train crews enjoy a wave also.

- Theda (Gem Lady) stopped by for a visit. 2. Gibbs bridge was full of people enjoying the view and the nice day a couple of pics of our view from there is below. 3. Welcoming and visiting with Simon after he arrived. 4.Bill and Matt solving world hunger while the others enjoy the shade. 5. Group photo. There was a lot of these taken 🙂

Yes most of us hang near the station area and the lookout but we always encourage getting out and checking out the area. There are many places to catch a train out in the middle of nowhere. Marceline is 45 minutes away. It offers the Walt Disney museum and some neat train displays at the park. Hamilton Missouri is a must for those who do quilting. There is lots to do with LaPlata as the base.

Sunday brought some rain but it was done by the afternoon for this special event. Santa Fe lake was the place to be for this wonderful time. It was a unique mix of railfans and family. Congratulations to Dave and Alaina on this wedding day. BTW they met at this event two years prior. The officiant was none other than Joel Kidwell (bazoo) in the chat room. The reception was at my house and then that evening Dave and Alaina got on #3 to go to Kansas City for their honeymoon.

This event was so much fun. The term “One More Train” (OMT) was made official. Context, This is my OMT! or here comes my OMT! Some new hooligans were brought into the fold and as always new friendships were made. I know that I am writing this way after the event but it has me excited for this years event. It is going to be another great time of fun, friends, food, trains and even a little rest.
