New Deck for the Lookout!!

http://childpsychiatryassociates.com/treatment-team/kathryn-cobb-stoner Yep it is done and the APRHF is happy about that. The other deck served its purpose but was becoming a safety concern. We picked the best weekend we could in March to get this done before the season officially started. Members and Volunteers present were Robert Mecham, Bob and Amy Cox, Carson Thorpe, Greg Smith and Rob Meyer.

We all arrived on Friday morning and dove in to the tear down process of the railing and deck floor. That floor fought us all the way but we got it removed. After that we checked each structure board and replaced what was needed. We cut the front end off and then leveled the remaining deck. Of course all work was paused when a train went by. Safety first you know. 🙂

Below are some photos with captions that will take you on the fun we had.

Next up was the detail work of leveling the deck, checking the joists and also sistering the joists to prevent sharing of a joist when two floorboards met.

Thankfully we buy from the local lumberyard and they had the extra boards to us that day so we could keep going. We had a wonderful meal donated to us at Colton’s on day two. Local Mexican food was the choice for day one at El Cantarito’s. Day three really had things looking like a deck again. You will notice in the photos that the VRF cam got moved to the other side of the deck. This made the bridge view better and we also eliminated some extra connectors in the cabling.

Boy it was nice to get all the floor laid so we could stand up for a while. The decorative edges were cut and put in place along with the camera gear. After that it was railing time and clean up up tools etc.

The road will be worked on next along with some decorative tie replacements. Projects are never ending. We are all happy that the weather allowed us to get this done earlier in the year when it was cooler.

A drone shot of the final product.
